Do You Really Need A New Year’s Resolution To Be A Better Person?

resolutions-angusandphilEvery year many vow that this is the year they are going to stick to their New Year’s Resolutions. They recruit friends to help stay on track. You hear the same goals every year:

  • Loose weight
  • Eat right
  • Stop smoking
  • Exercise
  • blah, blah, blah

Why do you need to wait until January 1st to do all these things that you should be doing right now? I never make resolutions. I’m more of a if I need to make changes I need to do it now. So many people make these resolutions only to loose interest after a month or two. I wonder if these bullet points on their list haven’t been thought out well enough to follow through with it. We all want to loose weight but have you thought about how you are going to do it or will you try a few different things and see what work? This process may disappoint you and lead you to fail.

You want to eat right but have you thought about how you are going to do this? Will you read labels and count calories? Will you start cooking healthier meals at home? I think we all have great intentions but with life zipping you by, are you able to handle the detours when you get side tracked? Are you disciplined enough to get back on track?

Regardless of what your goals are for 2013, make sure you have a plan of attack. Start with small goals so that you don’t set yourself up for failure. If you start exercising make it fun so that you don’t get bored, maybe you can try a Zumba class – it’s totally awesome and so much fun!

However you go about reaching your goals just remember to stay positive. We all have our tough days but if you stay positive and take it one day at a time you will definitely get there. Don’t be so hard on yourself and remember that takes dedication but it’s also ok if you fail and if that happens then you try again.

Good Luck!

Irene
